BENEFITING: Horizons For Homeless Children
ORGANIZER: Horizons For Homeless Children
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Homeless children often experience chronic stress and trauma from frequent moves; inconsistent relationships; lack of places to play; and witnessing domestic violence and substance abuse. This stress and trauma is emotionally and cognitively damaging to them. Effective early education programs can improve the outcomes for young homeless children and ensure success later in life. Research has shown that investments in quality early education programs in the early years of a child’s development also generate the greatest societal returns including reduced crime, welfare, and specialized educational services.
Horizons' early education centers are a model for ensuring school readiness among young homeless children. Horizons' three centers, known as Community Children’s Centers, serve 175 children each day. Each center takes an individualized, developmental approach, providing the children with quality early care and a creative curriculum most likely to help them enter school with the skills that they need to be successful socially and academically. One of the Community Children's Centers shares the building where my lovely wife, Rachel, works. The teen mothers that Rachel and her team coach would not be able to continue their education or pursue job training if it was not for the care of the Horizons for Homeless Children team.
Soooo, if you would be willing to come alongside Rachel and I as we aim to raise $5,000 for Horizons for Homeless Children (horizonschildren.org), it would mean the world to us. Simply click the yellow "DONATE" button to the right and follow the prompts. Thanks!!
