Horses Help Heroes
Horses Help Heroes is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enriching the lives of service-connected disabled veterans, their families and families who have lost loved ones while serving on active duty. HHH provides a variety of equine-related programs in a supportive environment at no cost to our veterans and families. Horses Help Heroes runs its programs at the former U.S. Naval Academy Dairy Farm in Gambrills, MD. The site’s military history, location, and facilities make it an ideal site for the program. The farm was established in 1913 for the purpose of supplying the Academy’s midshipmen with healthy, high-quality milk. It remained in operation until 1998. Just one year prior to closing, the Dairy Farm was determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Still owned by the U.S. Navy and managed by Anne Arundel County, the 857-acre property now houses organic farming, cattle, and equine operations.
