Operation Free Ride is a national program to give free horseback rides to returning combat veterans, active duty military personnel, "wounded warriors" and their families. Horses can and do help heal the wounds of war and separation and many people do not want to participate in formal therapeutic riding programs. We believe that all riding is therapeutic and all of us have special needs, from the kids who are missing their mom or dad, to the mom who is struggling in her new role as "caregiver," to the veterans who want to reconnect and get reacquainted with their families. Operation Free Ride gives these heroes and their families the opportunity to enjoy a free ride at one of our host centers in 44 states. Rides can range from a cattle drive to a ride along the beach in Monterey to an arena lesson. We estimate the direct cost to our organization at $50 per family per ride. Our goal is to give 500 families a free ride this year!
