EVENT DATE: May 07, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 80
My husband and I are going to donate 2 weeks of our time helping the homeless dogs and cats of Guatemala. I'm Kristine, a pet groomer in training and a future veterinary technician, and my husband is Patrick, a student of history and Asian studies and an avid animal lover. Together we've rescued several animals, many of which are now a part of our family. I came across animalaware.org by accident and from there discovered Hound Heights Animal Shelter in Sumpango, Guatemala. The shelter houses over 250 homeless dogs and cats and is run primarily by 3 wonderful women, but they rely heavily on volunteer workers. That is where Patrick and I come in. We will be volunteering from May 7th to May 21st at the shelter; feeding the animals, bathing the animals, cleaning their kennels, walking and playing with the animals, and possibly even assisting with medical care given to the animals. We already have our airfare and have already committed ourselves to the shelter, so we are going with or without or fund goal. The finances can be broken down very simply. Our airfare was a thousand dollars for each ticket, our housing accomadations at the shelter will be $140, and we'll need about $200 to $300 for food and other miscellaneous items, such as cab or bus fare. This money is for the animals and for the animals only. This isn't a luxurious vacation for two that my husband and I are taking! Your donations will not be ignored! Each contribution will be rewarded! If you don't care for the any of the perks that we've come up with and have your own idea of a better perk for you, please let us know! If we feel it is something we can grant you, then we will indeed! Please don't be shy. Tell others about our campaign!
