WEST HOUSE INC's Fundraiser:

Hour of Heat

Usually, when we’re getting a new resident, we’ve got plenty of time to prepare since we know at least a few days in advance. That’s not always the case, however, and wasn’t the case with Mary.
It was a holiday weekend when we received an emergency call from the Department of Public Welfare—they were forcing the closure of a home nearby and needed immediate placement for Mary.

Almost immediately, details of her Dickensian life at the previous home began to emerge: not having enough food was a common problem; despite regulations to the contrary, there wasn’t always a staff person present and the residents were often forced to cook for and care for each other. I don’t know how long it had been since she’d seen a foot doctor, but her toenails were so long, they literally touched the ground, which made it difficult for her to walk and excruciatingly painful for her to wear shoes. The other home, as it turns out, was not administering her meds correctly and kept her in a semi-sedated state. After only a few weeks at West House, a family member visited her and was stunned to see her fully-coherent; the family was unaware that her medications were being administered incorrectly and believed her health had just been naturally deteriorating over a period of years. Now, Mary stood before them completely coherent for the first time in as long as they could remember.

We are all thankful that Mary found West House. Now surrounded by staff who truly love her, all of Mary’s daily needs are met: she’s no longer left wanting for food as staff prepare her meals, she is now completely coherent as we administer her medication, coordinate her medical appointments and ensure that she has warm, safe place to live.

Unfortunately, as you can imagine, the cost of providing these services is substantial and is increasing by leaps and bounds. And that is why we’re turning to you for help: our utility bills are well over $10,000 a year but you can help for just a few pennies. $1.32 will provide an hour of heat, keeping our beloved residents warm and cozy in their home. While $1.32 might not sound like much to you, it makes all the difference to those most in need, which is why we’ve started our Hour of Heat Fundraiser. You can give as much or as little as you want, as you see just pennies can make a huge difference.

A donation of $1.32 provides one hour of heat.
A donation of $31.68 provides one day of heat.
A donation of $95.04 provides three days of heat.
A donation of $221.76 provides one whole week of heat.

Please consider participating in this important fundraiser and help us wrap our residents in warmth. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. If you prefer to send a check, you can make it payable to "West House" and send it to: 616 W Edwin St, Williamsport PA 17701.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! And remember, West House is a 501(c)(3) organization so you donation is tax-deductible.
