It is both a pleasure and an honor to inform you that the Indian Community in the United States is very close to experiencing a historic moment through the House of India (HOI) project. After waiting nearly ten years, HOI along with nine other countries, will begin the construction of a cottage in November 2016 in Balboa Park, America’s largest urban cultural park (http://www.balboapark.org/). HOI is a pioneering project that was started ten years ago to create a greater awareness of India’s rich and varied culture to tens of thousands of international and national visitors who visit this historic park. This is the first initiative of its kind in the United States and is generously supported by the City of San Diego which has assigned land to India and nine other countries to build cottages that represent each of their countries. Through the House of India cottage, we will be showcasing Indian art, history, culture, traditions, heritage, folklore, music, dance and ethnic food. Coexisting with cottages from the nine other new countries and 19 other countries who have already built cottages in Balboa Park, HOI will engage in promoting universal peace, multicultural goodwill, and understanding amongst global citizens. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “In numbers Parsis are beneath contempt, but in contribution, beyond compare.” It is a known fact that the members of the Parsi community are known for their philanthropy and patriotism towards India. A wonderful Zoroastrian Parsi couple living in San Diego has agreed to match any donations from the nationwide Parsi community to the House of India, upto a total of $20,000. The donations will be in the names of the Parsi Community living in the United States. There are approximately 18,000 Parsis living in the United States. HOI has raised close to $270,000 of the $350,000 needed to build and equip the cottage. We are counting on the generosity of the Parsi Community to make this dream of building a House of India cottage a reality. Thank you for being an integral part of the community and contributing to the House of India initiative.
