We have been through so much because of Hurricane Sandy. At this point my home looks the same and maybe worse than the day after it hit. This picture was taken today April 18, 2013. We have lived in Lindenhurst since 1986. This is our first home. we have two children, Matthew, who recently graduated college and Brittany, who recently graduated High School this year. We have been displaced living at two different locations already and now we are being told we need to leave again. The house is being sold. We are horrified to have to go through this again. My daughter is in her senior year of High School and this year has been so inconsistent. Because we do not have all the correct documents she has missed the deadline and been turned down by so many different colleges. It feels so unfair that she worked so hard for a 90 average and due to paperwork she cannot get in. when the water hit our home we ran upstairs taking all we could carry. The water level reached 4 feet in our home destroying all ofour property. We finally recieved some funds to fix our house but it must be raised. We need to live in limbo until the home is raised. I do not have content insurance and of course I am not getting enough funds to even fix the house to be in a livable state. We hopefully anticipate moving in by this December. Hopefully before Christmas. I do not have any content insurance so what I was able to salvage is in all my friends basements and garages but it is not much. Just some memories from attic. Our first contractors were very reckless and threw everything that was somewhat salvagable out the window into dumpsters. It was horrifying arriving home to see what demo was done and then to see what was salvagable be turned into trash. After dumpster diving I am not driving around with the only memories I have left in my car. I look like a hoarder but little do people know that this is all my family has left of memories. With help from this Adopt A House fundraiser my family is looking for help to purchase some furniture and appliances. We have purchased a kitchen table and chairs, and televisions, and some tables. we need living room furniture, washer and dryer, and kitchen items such as a stove, refridgerator, microwave, and dishwasher. We could use bedroom furniture like dressers and night stands and lamps. My husband is disabled and our income is not enough to catch up.But we are a resilient family and we are bounding back and very grateful for all the support we have received. Thank you for reading this.
