Our home was a ranch style house in Babylon located on a canal, close to the Great South Bay. On the night of the hurricane, our home was flooded with 4 feet of water. My family and I were rescued by a Babylon Village firefighter that night and we have not been back since.
Although my husband and I both hold jobs, our house was severely damaged and our insurance has not come close to covering the cost of construction or replacement of beds, appliances etc. all of which ended up as trash.
Our home must be torn down to meet Fema compliance, we will need to install wood piles, a very expensive project, to raise the level of a modular house. As with many other victims of Hurricane Sandy we are watching our limited resources become depleted before we are even back in our homes. That being said we do have insurance, although it is nothing close to what we are expecting to spend, aside from other purchases such as furniture, appliances, etc My family and I would appreciate any amount or any type of help."
