BENEFITING: AVESTA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
We are a group of seven volunteers working on the issue of homelessness in Portland. We are employed at Baker Newman Noyes, CIEE, Camp Ketcha, L.L.Bean, United Way, and Unum. Like others, we have full time jobs outside of this critical issue area, and lives that keep us very busy. But we realize that homelessness impacts the entire community, and believe we all have the responsibility to do something to support those who are struggling. We can all play a role, and we hope you'll join us.
Avesta Housing, in partnership with Preble Street, is creating Portland's third "housing first" development for people who are currently homeless. The 30-unit apartment building on Bishop Street, which will open in the spring of 2017, will be targeted to homeless adults with chronic health conditions. Our volunteer team is committed to raising $50,000 to purchase personal furnishings for the residents, such as linens, towels, kitchenware and small appliances.
What you can do to help: Please make a donation of any amount to help ensure that these newly-housed individuals have the basic, essential goods that every person should have to call their house a home. The following giving opportunities are avilable as examples:
- $25: Towels, Sponges, Mixing Bowl Set
- $50: Blankets (2 per unit)
- $100: Microwave
- $250: Dishes, Pots & Pans, Toaster, Coffeemaker, Mixer, Baking Dishes
- $500: Television & Easy Chair/Rocker/Recliner
