The CAF’s Fairchild PT-19 is a primary trainer that has been in the Houston Wing for just a few years. The aircraft still fulfills its intended role as a primary trainer teaching pilots to fly the tail dragger type aircraft. This aircraft is part of the organization’s mission to preserve and fly these important aircraft used in World War II for the education and enjoyment of others. Today the Houston Wing is launching a campaign to upgrade the avionics installed in the PT-19 to meet the FAA ADS-b standard that becomes effective for all aircraft as of Jan 1, 2020. This airplane is often seen in the skies locally, performing in airshows, in flyovers, offering historic flight experiences and providing tours to the public and veterans, all in support of her mission of education and remembrance.
