THE STORY:

The world is full of wonder for middle school students. S.T.E.M. makes peeking students' interest easy. We plan to build a geodesic dome greenhouse and a hydroponic system to grow plants. This service project will provide students with many outstanding opportunities in problem solving, cooperation, math, and engineering design. It will also provide food for our growing population of students that go to bed hungry. We will reduce our carbon footprint by composting our cafeteria waste to fertilize our garden. This high interest project will help others and fulfill the innate need children have to build.
Enthusiasm is greatest when students feel like they are in control of a given situation. My students love any kind of challenge, especially when they can be creative. I want to involve my students in every aspect of this project from designing, building, and maintaining the geodesic structure. The students will be guided, but given a large amount of freedom to control the overall direction of this project. I believe this will increase student interest and participation. Students in leadership roles will self-regulate and govern the construction process making our dream project a reality.
