EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
I am running the Boston Marathon for the 3rd time and this time I also have the distiguished honor to raise money for the Hoyt Foundation. Dick and Rick Hoyt have been an inspiration to me since I saw them complete in the 2006 Ironman. They have inspired me with their strenght and passion, and I know they have inspired countless others.
Rick Hoyt was diagnosed with cerbral palsey at birth. Unable to control the use of his muscles he is bound to a chair. In 1977 Team Hoyt was born when Rick was inspired to run a race through an article he read in a magazine. Dick (his father) was no runner, but at 37 years young he pushed is son through their first race. Upon completion Rick said to his father "Dad, when I'm running, it feels like I'm not handicapped". There the seed was sown and Dick and Rick have since competed in over 1000 endurance races including marathons, duathlons, and triathlons. This year they will be running their 30th Boston Marathon and I am honored to be running with them!
The Hoyt Foundation was established in 1989 to help build character, confidence, and self awareness for America's disabled youth. The money raised by the Hoyt Foundation helps support organization such as Easter Seals, Challenged Athletes Foundation, and Pioneer Valley Theraputic Riding Association.
So what can you do? You contribution will help American's disabled young people through education and services that improve all facets of daily life including school, family, community, sports and recreation. You can help change a life today. Donate now:-)
