EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
As many of you have heard, I am planning to run the Boston Marathon on April 16, 2012 as a qualified runner with Team Hoyt. For those of you unfamiliar with Team Hoyt and the Hoyt Foundation it evolved from an inspirational story of a father, Dick Hoyt, and his non-verbal disabled son, Rick; who after finishing their 1st 5k race proved that despite incredible obstacles - anyone can be an athlete. They continue to compete together (at age 71 & 50 respectively) in marathons and triathlons across the country. Team Hoyt strives to help those who are physically disabled become active members of the community. Their simple message to people of all ages is, "Yes You Can!"
As an educator in an elementary school, I realize the limitations that disabled children face on a daily basis – the Hoyt Foundation is dedicated to leveling the playing field for all. The Hoyt foundation and I share an altruistic love for children and strive to surpass expectations - that is why I am compelled to run with them.
As a runner, I have committed to raise as much money as possible to benefit this great foundation. It is my hope that you will join me in my pursuit to “Make A Difference” in the lives of children with exceptionalities. All children have been created by God and have been given special gifts and talents. Each child is special and deserves a chance to “Dream Big”. Any donation to the “Hoyt Foundation” will be most graciously accepted, and no amount is too small. Together we can accomplish great things! You can donate online at www.crowdrise.com/WesHarding .
Training for a marathon for me will be both exciting and challenging. But my challenge is nothing in comparison to the daily struggles that the physically disabled face every day, for the rest of their lives. Please join me in spirit by contributing. Whatever you can give will help—it all adds up. I really appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
This years team is made possible by our generous sponsor and principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon, John Hancock. We are very fortunate to be coached again this year by three time Boston Marathon Champion, former No. 1 ranked marathoner in the world, New York City Marathon Champion, Berlin Marathon Champion and former world record holder Uta Pippig.
Our team of both qualified and chairty runners have set a fundraising goal of $200,000 which would eclipse our former record by $75,000. Please give generously as our runners train, sweat, hurt and raise funds for the Hoyt Foundation, Inc. The Hoyt Foundation, Inc. is an IRS 501(c)(3) charity. Checks can be made payable to the Hoyt Foundation, Inc. and mailed to 241 Mashapaug Road, Holland, Massachusetts 01521.
