Climbing Mt. Everest (the BIG one, the GRAND DADDY of all mountains) has always been a lifelong dream. I set out to climb the seven tallest summits of the world in 2013, and quickly realized I wasn't – no, couldn't – do this for mere self-gratification. I was climbing for a cause.
My father instilled wise principles in me from a very young age. He always taught me to follow my dreams and work hard, and my dreams would be fulfilled. However, my father was never able to see me accomplish my biggest life dream after losing his battle with cancer in 1995. Saying goodbye to my father was the hardest thing I've been through. So, I set out to carry out the wisdom he taught me. I started training for mountain climbing and decided I would honor his life through raising money for cancer with each summit I conquered.
Cancer is a scourge to which many of us have lost loved ones. Loved ones whose lives were cut too short and didn't get to experience triumphs and dreams achieved by humanity. I believe humans help humanity, and our responsibility is to help make this world a better place. So this is my way of contributing my time and talents to a greater purpose. My desire is to see future generations live without fear of a terminal cancer diagnosis. It's a war we need to win and CAN win as long as we keep contributing. I hope to provide hope people who are currently battling cancer and comfort for family members who are walking through the battlefield with them.
Each step I take on the mountain is a step toward helping humanity and creating a world that is cancer free. I truly believe as we collectively come together (#humanshelpinghumans) we can find a cure for cancer. I encourage all of you to find your own Mt. Everest (#findyoureverest); a goal that you are passionate about accomplishing and a mission you believe in supporting. Together, we can do this.
My goal is to raise $29,029. Since Mt. Everest is 29,029 ft., that means $1 for every foot I climb. I hope you'll join with me to help me reach this goal.
Let's all fight cancer together!
Thank you all in advance.
