BENEFITING: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
ORGANIZER: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
Exciting news! On November 1st, I will run 26.2 miles through Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island with 50,000+ other athletes in theTCS New York City Marathon.
Last year, my goals for the Philadelphia Marathon were: 1) have fun, 2) don't get hurt, and 3) finish. I managed to do all of those things in 5 hours, 19 minutes, and 48 seconds. This year, with the Broad Street Run already behind me (and a decent finish of 1:32:39), I'm ready to trim some time - at least a minute, probably more - from my marathon splits! Who knows, maybe next year I'll qualify for Boston?!
By running as an HRC Athlete for Equality, I am dedicating this race to helping make our schools, hospitals, and workplaces safer and more equal for LGBT Americans. I have committed to raising a minimum of $5,000 for the Human Rights Campaign while I train for the big day -- and I need your help to get there.
I think it's pretty simple: people should be treated equally. In too many schools, too many offices, and too many hospitals, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are subjected to bullying or unfair treatment. We've come a long way in changing people’s hearts and minds, but there's so much more to do, and the Human Rights Campaign is working day in and day out to push for equality all around the country.
Please donate as generously as you can. It doesn't need to be a lot - little bits add up quickly! I'm looking forward to race day, and can't wait to tell you all about it once I've made it through my training and finished my event.
