BENEFITING: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
ORGANIZER: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
I am running the NYC marathon in honor of my three beautiful girls. I am running for all the families out there with 'two mommies.' I am running to challenge bias and prejudice and running to stop it in myself and all others. I am running to embrace diversity and inclusion, and running to fight discrimination - for good.
I am running as a humble member of the HRC team and dedicating this race to the different variations of families everywhere. I am running on behalf of all the mommies out there who loved each other courageously and dared themselves to expand their love with families. I am running for the love of my life - who I still cannot believe I am blessed to call mine even after 18 years - and our two precious daughters. They are the greatest little people to ever walk the earth.
This run is not simply about equality. It is also to model for my daughters the tremendous strength and love it takes to liberate yourself without negating the honest struggle. As the remarkable Martin Luther King said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." My best wish is that my running in conjunction with my other HRC teammates will not just speak, it will scream.
