We are the Haitian Students Association (HSA) of Cornell University, a student-run organization. Our role on campus so far has been to uplift the image of Haiti, expose the Cornell community to the best of Haitian culture, and to support and host fundraising events for Haiti through non-governmental organizations and charities. In our 30 years of existence at Cornell, we have yet to organize a service trip to Haiti. This year’s executive board is inspired to plan our first annual service trip to Haiti. The service trip will elevate and strengthen our ties to Haiti and the ever pressing strive for sustainable development in our native country. The service trip is planned for March 16, 2013.
We will be working with Haitian Partners for Christian Development (HPCD), which is a Haitian owned NGO that is supported by the United Nations. HPCD is keen on sustainable economic development. Its services consist of: business and life skills training, business incubation, youth training, and job placement. This service trip has the potential to be a very enriching experience for the Haitian Students Association but also for Haitian Partners for Christian Development and all of their partners as we will be supporting their local communities. We hope that this initiative will evolve into a yearly project that can expand and strengthen our liaison with this organization and so many others.
