BENEFITING: KENTUCKY EQUINE HUMANE CENTER INC
Help horses like Metro Jessica and so many more. Metro Jessica, a 3 yr old registered Standardbred, arrived at KyEHC on July 25, 2013 from Eastern KY in horrific condition - weighing approximately 700 pounds, which is about 400-500 pounds underweight. Her hind hooves were impacted with gravel which had caused severe abscesses, and pieces of her sole and hoof were gone. One of the pieces of gravel was close to the size of a dime! After days of consultation with veterinarians and farriers, the decision was made that Jessica had a good chance of recovery. She is currently under the care of Hagyard Equine Medical veterinarians, and veterinarian/farriers from Fraley Equine Podiatry. Jessica's back feet are packed with iodine dressings; she has glue-on shoes and hospital plates on to protect her feet and give them an opportunity to heal. Her recovery will take months - months of daily attention to her feet an overall health. Months of changing dressings and applying medication. Months of being given the privilege of helping this horse heal and be given a second chance at life. We are looking forward to watching her improve!
