BENEFITING: The A21 Campaign
A few years ago I saw the film "Trade". It is a movie about the sex trafficking industry that although fictional, is based on true events/facts about the illegal industry. The movie really affected me, alerting me to just how horrific and inhumane this industry is. I wanted to get involved somehow to help combat this kind of terror and stumbled across the A21 Campaign while researching various organizations that I could possible volunteer with. This particular non-profit is solely dedicated to abolishing the sex trafficking industry. While reading through their site, I came across staggering facts. For instance, human trafficking is the second largest global organized crime and generates approximately 31.6 billion USD each year. Once I read through their information, I knew I wanted to help.
Last year I ran the Spartan Race to raise awareness for the cause; one of the ways in which they encourage people to become involved. This year, I would also like to raise some money for them. What I really like about this organization, which you'll see on their website, are all the ways in which they are combating sex trafficking. Not only do they run shelters and rehabiliation for victims, but they also travel to villages in the Ukraine, the source of most victims, and educate them about trafficking so they do not get lured by the promises of work abroad. In addition, they also help fund the capture and prosecution of sex traffickers in whichever country they may reside.
Please check out their website www.a21campaign.org, become aware, and hopefully you'll feel compelled to get involved, as I did, by donating through my Spartan Race Challenge. I am confident the money will be used appropriately since I have reviewed their tax return (which I can also provide if wanted). The money you donate will be sent directly to the organization on the 15th of month. Thanks for taking the time to check out my page and supporting a wonderful organization doing a lot of good!
