BENEFITING: Self Help Africa
EVENT DATE: Oct 28, 2013
Hello – As you probably know, I have decided to run my first (and only) marathon in Dublin, Ireland on October 28th. I have many motivations for doing so. While training, I often think of friends who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to undertake a marathon. I also am doing this to honor my parents, who were both born and raised in Ireland and came to New York when they were in their early 20’s. Ultimately, though, my greatest motivation (and trust me, I needed motivation) is that I am running to raise money for 2 charities that I am involved with. The first is called New Ground (www.newground.org) and I have been involved as a member of the Board for many years. The other organization is called Self Help Africa (www.selfhelpafrica.org) and I have been a member of its Advisory Board for about 4 years. As a child of immigrants, my sisters and I were always encouraged to get our education. Both organizations focus on education as a means for people to become empowered so they can make a better life for each other.
If you are so inclined, please make a donation to further motivate my run.
