BENEFITING: HUGS FOR HORSES AND CHILDREN YOUTH RANCH INC
ORGANIZER: HUGS FOR HORSES AND CHILDREN YOUTH RANCH INC
As I think about what HUGS Ranch means to me my mind races. The phrase that keeps coming back to me is "Safe in the arms of Jesus".
I think of a young girl battling depression. The ranch was a safe place where she was needed and loved. She found a reason to exist; accepted by both the other workers and the horses. She helped a horse with minor injuries and to this day is filled with compassion for all God's creatures.
I remember a boy. His mom helped him walk from their van to the arena. After riding, with his muscles stretched and exercised from balancing on the horse, he walked back to the van by himself. I was amazed.
There was a girl who worked with Shadow, a tall thoroughbred. She helped groom him, picked out his hooves, tack up, and rode him through the challenges set up in the arena. She was so proud of herself! Later I saw her at a parade. She was still feeling accomplished and much more confident than the day we met.
At the ranch you see smiling children and their smiling parents. Moms and Dads are talking to other parents who struggle with the same issues at home. They share advice and understanding.
The ranch is so much more than a fun morning. The lasting effects of this therapy are felt at home, at school, and in the community. If you've looked for a way to help sooth the hurt in the world, here it is. Let's do some good together.
