Human Rights in Childbirth (HRiC) is an international organization of some of the most influential thought leaders in human rights and maternity care. HRiC works tirelessly to address global maternal and newborn health through the lens of human rights, in interdisciplinary and innovative ways. Our organization challenges the professional and political segmentation of women’s and children’s health, and advocates for recognition of the full range of human rights at stake in pregnancy, childbirth, and post-partum.
HRiC has successfully organized international conferences in The Hague, the U.S., Belgium, Croatia, and South Africa. Bringing together lawyers, grassroots activists, doctors, midwives, social scientists, bioethicists and other concerned people for the discussion of the human rights at stake for birthing persons and newborns, these conferences enable the exchange of knowledge and information about the actions underway in different places toward the development of evidence-based, rights-based, respectful maternity care. These multi-disciplinary collaborations gave rise to ongoing partnerships and strategic advocacy that has had measurable impact on women’s rights and options in childbirth in diverse local maternity care systems. We are currently organizing conferences in Europe and India within the next year.
Your contributions to HRIC are the foundation of our growing organization. Your support is building a global reproductive justice movement that will put women's needs and rights at the center of their care. More specifically, your donation will support
1) global campaigns to educate women on their rights in childbirth and help them to report on their experiences of care and improve their local maternity care systems,
2) coordination with grassroots activists in Europe and India to advance advocacy through multi-stakeholder conferences, and
3) the organizing structure that enables us to move this work forward.
By donating to HRiC, you take an active stake in the movement and move the global community toward a place where respect for human rights is fundamental, and babies are born to mothers who are respected, supported, and safe.
In solidarity and gratitude.
