The Humane Society of Tampa Bay was founded in 1912 and is one of Florida’s oldest non-profits. In 2015, we rescued 7,402 homeless animals and helped treat an additional 49,000 animals at our affordable animal hospital.
Caring for over 7,000 homeless animals each year comes at a great cost. Many of our animals come in as strays and have received very little, if any, medical care. At our shelter each animal is given a tremendous amount of medical care including vaccines, flea and heartworm prevention, a microchip and sterilization surgery.
In addition, because we are a NO-KILL for space shelter, every adoptable animal receives any additional medical treatment it may require. This often involves antibiotics, special skin care and quite often heartworm treatment. The cost to treat just one dog for heartworms is over $400.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay appreciates all donations to help with the medical costs for over 7,000 animals this year.
