Human Spirit Project
Organized by: Kenna Garcia
Human Spirit Project, our idea is simple:
Sell products everyone needs and uses, and use profits to help those in need. Why not have the option of knowing where your money goes? We are not here to feed pockets, but to feed hunger, needs, and minds with food, care, and education.
HSP is looking to start up León to sell clothing, and to help support and increase the quality of life for children around the world. 50% of all profits go to each of these charities, 10% each:
www.KeepaChildAlive.org (Keep A Child Alive)
www.fmsc.org (Feed My Starving Child)
www.kidsalive.org (Kids alive international)
www.savethechildren.org (Save The Children)
www.childrenshungerfund.org (Child Hunger Fund)
*All of these charities have received a four star rating on www.Charitynavigator.org
The other 50%:
Is used for company growth. The company needs to grow in order for us to increase profits and thus increase donations. We are not trying to make a temporary fundraising campaign, but a company that constantly donates large amounts of funds to help make this world a more fair place, year after year.
The most defining moment in my life will always be december 25, 2002 because that is the day I woke to the news of my mother committing suicide. I was 15 and she was the single most important thing in my life. With this came the unbearable
feeling of being alone and abandoned, and it is horrible to feel alone in a world filled with people. So yes, I do have an idea of what it feels like to be alone and left, and this is not a feeling I wish for any child in our world.
I am a proud navy veteran, serving from 2008-2013, and spent the better half of this year volunteering in Brazil. I was building a home for a family of eight in a small favela in Rio de Janiero. After volunteering in Brazil for four months I spent a few more traveling through S.America but it was a lot more than these events in my life that have inspired me to start this project. Our world is far from equal and as adults, okay, it's a dog eat dog world out there, but as children it just isn't right..
My only wish in this life, is for the world to be more fair, especally for children. A lot of us in developed countries take the basics we all have available to us everyday for granted. Millions of kids are born with the struggle to fight for food, clothes, and education.
We want to give these kids hope and show them this world isn't as cold and bitter as it might seem. So I invite you to help me find the balance, and to feed these young minds, bodies, and souls with the hope and strength to chase their own dreams.
Risks and challenges:
Of course donating 50% of profits is gonna make it much harder for a company to stay afloat and compete with others in a cut-throat business market, but if you just take a moment, and think about where the donations go and why, then it is all easily worth the extra challenge. This project isn't about me, or you, but them.
