BENEFITING: YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit
In the city of Detroit, 70% of children cannot swim, and are almost three times more likely to drown than their suburban peers. No child should fear the water. To teach a child to swim, we need to raise $100 per child. Humantech is going to help solve this problem, sponsoring 10 children learning how to swim. Can you help us?
The Solution: The Y's Detroit Swims program reaches out to schools, community pools and other urban centers, where we can run our unique swim program. We can teach a child to swim in a matter of weeks, and they are more safe for the rest of thier lives.
The Goal: Each year we raise more than $150,000 to help at least 1,500 children learn this life saving skill. We collect donations of new swim suits and goggles for every child in our program.
The Progress: Since 2010, the Boll Family YMCA's Detroit Swims program has been able to successfully teach approximately 2,300 students from Detroit area schools. Please help us continue, until we can confidently say "Yes, Detroit Swims!"
