Over half the public school students in this country are from low-income families. poverty and hunger is witnessed every day by teachers, principals and staff. 3 out of 4 public school teachers say that students regularly come to school hungry. 81% say it happens at least once a week. So the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) makes it possible for all school children in the United States to receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch every school day. But what happens when Summer Vacation comes? When school lets out, millions of low-income children lose access to the school breakfasts, lunches and afterschool snacks they receive during the regular school year. The program we are suggesting will fill that Summer session gap. Families that can't afford food most likely can't afford to send their children to summer programs that provide meals. What we suggest is a Summer Meals on Wheels for those student who need access to breakfast, lunch and snacks during the summer. We will deliver prepared meals on a weekly bases during the summer to students who were on the free and reduce school lunch program. Meals will be in pre portioned containers so that the students has the opportunity to get a well balanced meals, the same as they would if they were in school, during the summer months. Help us get a program together to help feed our children because food and education go hand in hand, and hunger doesn't take a vacation .
