BENEFITING: Huntington's Disease Society of America, Inc.
Lots of LOVE that's what "Papa Bear" is to me and that's why I am running the NYC 2017 Marathon with the HDSA Team in his honor!
Despite the fact that Huntington's has taken away his ability to care for himself and to talk freely it will never take away what is inside him and how special he is to me. The funds raised will help support HDSA's Mission of helping those affected by HD and their families.
Mom met Chris in January of1998, through mutual friends, at a Superbowl party. They were married in October 2003 at a beautiful wedding by the river in upstate New York. A great celebration followed and the number of people who attended, with just 3 weeks notice, was a true testament to what a great couple they made!
We have shared many wonderful times over the years and as we learned of his diagnosis and his symptoms, from this hereditary disease, have become more obvious we continue to focus on what is most important, spending time together and letting each other know how much we love one another.
Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. Many describe the symptoms of HD as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.
I hope you will help me in reaching my fundraising goal and our ultimate goal of finding a cure for HD!
