CIRCLE OF HEALTH INTERNATIONAL's Fundraiser:

Circle of Health - Hurricane Matthew Relief

CIRCLE OF HEALTH INTERNATIONAL's Photo

THE STORY:

Circle of Health International (COHI), an Austin-based nonprofit dedicated to providing access to healthcare for women and children in crisis settings, has partnered with Well Aware and Aurora Global to counteract the spread of cholera throughout Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

Our local partners are Midwives for Haiti (MFH), and we are working together to address the public health threats that are plaguing Haiti following the destruction of Hurricane Matthew. As the total damage of the hurricane is evaluated, we know there is significant damage to hospitals, clinics, roads, homes, and latrines. The storm has affected thousands of families and has further exacerbated the already fragile state of Haiti's health care system.

Cholera remains the greatest public health risk to pregnant mothers and children, especially nursing mothers. High levels of rainfall have flooded and destroyed latrines, resulting in widespread contamination of local water systems. This is the primary form in which Cholera is spread and following 5 years of experience in the region, COHI and partners confidently anticipate that it will again pose a major health risk for Haitians as it has before.

Through Crowdrise, COHI seeks to send tarps, medical supplies, and medication to the folks at MFH so they can better keep women and children dry, clean, and healthy. COHI will aslo provide cholera awareness training for healthcare workers, while Well Aware will conduct sanitation and hygiene training with broader communities. Aurora Global will evaluate local water systems for contamination and target possible solutions for cleaning and fixing existing systems.

Every donation will help ensure that these vulnerable people will not suffer excessively in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Please reach out and show them the support they need.
