Hurricane Patricia Relief Fund Final Report
June 15, 2016

Dear friends, I apologize for the silence, it has been a long road.  As of today, I will be closing down the CrowdRise page, so I wanted to See More

THE STORY:

Dear Friends,

As you may have heard Hurricane Patricia, one of the most dangerous storms in history, hit Mexico’s Pacific coast and left a vast trail of destruction. We are setting up this hurricane relief fund to bring supplies and to rebuild the neighboring villages of Costalegre who were hit the worst. This is the most affected area of the entire storm. People have lost their homes, all of their belongings, and are completely drenched from the floods. With the impending rains, lack of shelter, water and food, and the rise of dengue they need our immediate help.

We urge you to help us by donating any amount, these people need us and without them this beautiful part of the world would not be the same.

Please help us rebuild & save the towns of Costalegre!

We appreciate all of your help!

Thank you,

Gaia Marcaccini & The Cuixmala Team

UPDATE 21&26/12/2015 :

With your donations, we have been able to do two deliveries of mattresses and tinacos (water tanks) just in time for the holidays. We would like to thank the Cuixmala Team, consisting of 13 fantastic people, for providing the logistics and the equipment for the distributions (3 large trucks and 1 pick up truck). The first event was held on December 21st where we delivered 58 mattresses and 6 tinacos to families in the villages of La Rosa, Agua Caliente and Agua Caliente Nva. The Cuixmala Team was dressed up in Santa hats and had a jolly time giving away the goods as the locals gave them beers in return. The second delivery was held on December 26th, where 149 mattresses were given to families from the villages of San Mateo, Punta Perula, Ranchitos Morelos, La Higher, Campo Costa, Miguel Hidalgo Nuevo and Viejo, Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa. Next up we should be receiving more water tanks as well as 3100 laminas (roofing supplies) that we will deliver before the end of the year. Here is a link where you can check out photos of the deliveries : http://dropcanvas.com/9y9vk.

UPDATE 10/12/2015 :

We threw a fundraising art auction on the roof of the Petit Ermitage hotel in West Hollywood, which was a huge success! We raised an additional 22k+ dollars for the Costalegre families, it was an incredible night! We are so touched by everyone's donations and we are so happy to provide our lovely Mexican coast the best aid possible in these hard times. What a fantastic way to begin the holidays! I will be going to Mexico next week and I will update you all with more information as soon as I can.

UPDATE 17/11/2015 :

We apologize for the silence, it has been an incredibly busy few weeks! Here is an update of what has been happening down in Costalegre. Along with other organizations from Puerto Vallarta, the Careyes Foundation and Waves for Water, emergency supplies have been distributed such as dispensas, water filters, clothing, laminas for roofing and medical supplies. This initial help has been tremendous but there is still an incredible amount of work to make sure everyone is safe in the long run. In the past week, the Mexican Government has been helping some of the villages by distributing 29,000 roofs, 16,000 house supplies including stoves, fridges, beds, washing machines, mattresses etc. Therefore, the Cuixmala team has been redrafting lists in order not to double up on items and to provide where the local authorities are not. Electricity and phone lines are back up and running in most areas. As for your donations, next week we will work on acquiring the necessary items after updating our lists. Thank you so much for your support, we will update you as soon as we can regarding the new changes.

UPDATE 28/10/2015 : In 3 hours, we will deliver to the villages Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa 520 "Laminas" to cover roofs and 150 "despensas" (which is a basket with rice, beans, tortillas, cooking oil, milk etc). 120 Laminas are coming from Danny Mininni's charity fund in Puerto Vallarta. The electricity and phone lines are being fixed, and the roads are filled with trucks of people helping.

UPDATE 27/10/2015 : Phone & internet lines are still down, but power should be back between thursday and saturday. Many trucks have arrived with supplies, but what is most pressing is rebuilding shelters as everyone's roof are gone. We have sent cars to Puerto Vallarta to bring roofing supplies focusing on villages of Chamela, Villa, Zapata & Arroyo seco. Made contact today and the area looks war torn. New photos uploaded by Alexa Firmenich & Thalia Davidoff who are out there assessing the damage.

UPDATE 26/10/2015 : Phone & internet lines are still down. My family is on their way to assess the damage and set up a list of what supplies to get from Guadalajara and other nearby cities. So far what is needed the most is water, blankets and materials to build shelter.
