BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Mileage Tracker: 26
To friends, family, friends who are like family:
By now, I'm sure you've seen pictures and videos of the devastation Sandy has caused in New York and New Jersey.
There's been a lot of discussion here about whether the race should be held or not. This week it was announced that the New York Marathon is scheduled to go on as planned this Sunday. After a lot of thought, I've decided to run.
While I have decided to run, the profound devastation and hardships my fellow New Englanders are experiencing right now are not lost on me. There's a lot of clean-up, relief efforts, and rebuilding ahead of us, and for this reason, I'm dedicating my 26.2 miles to help raise funds for the American Red Cross.
I've created this fundraising page to help make donating easy. I am eternally grateful to those of you have provided encouragement and support during my marathon training, and I hope you can lend a little extra support to other New Yorkers who need your help, too.
If you can, please make a donation or pledge a dollar (or two or five) for every mile I complete on Sunday. And I promise I'll do my best to get through all 26.2 miles to help a city that has so warmly opened its arms to me.
To other marathon runners: If you'd like to join my fundraising team and pledge your miles too, I'm happy to add you.
Here's to crossing the finish line!
Lots of love,
