Support Relief Efforts for Hurricane Sandy.
Your contribution will go to the American Red Cross and will provide critical support to those in need.
On the Sunday of the ING NYC Marathon, more than 1,200 runners, mostly clad in their official orange Marathon shirts and wearing their race bibs, gathered at the Staten Island Ferry in Manhattan carrying back packs filled with badly needed supplies for residents in Staten Island (site of the Marathon start), who were badly hit by SuperStorm Sandy. The result was New York Runners in Support of Staten Island, organized by a dozen New York professionals, rallied the troups using social media, and organized volunteers into small groups, who fanned out and ran distances ranging from 5 miles to more than 14 miles to drop off supplies and lend a hand. The experience was a huge eye-opener and brought badly needed attention to an area in dire need of help. The effort build a powerful community who wants to continue to help funnel donations and organize further support to put feet on the ground in Staten Island and other parts of the Northeast ravaged by the storm.
