As of June 2016, CNN reports that Flint, Michigan is still suffering from a water crisis.
"The city's water supply was contaminated with toxic levels of lead and iron, and unfiltered water is unsafe to drink. While the city works to replace the pipes, residents need clean water to drink, cook, and bathe."
According to SaveTheChildren.org, 26,000 children have been poisoned by the toxic water in Flint. Many children will have lifelong health issues physically and mentally. Lead exposure can lower IQ, is linked to learning disabilities, and ultimately, if Black, the confluence of these things can lead to jail or worse.
So the plan is simple: It's my birthday and instead of giving me money or gifts or tweets and Facebook statuses, I want you to donate even one dollar to help the victims of environmental racism. (Let's not forget how many people in power knew Flint water was toxic.) I will be donating ALL THE MONEY to several orgs working to help Flint children including SaveTheChildren and Flint Kids.
