Volunteers of America of Utah, Inc.'s Fundraiser:

Homeless Youth Resource Center Holiday Backpack Project

Volunteers of America of Utah, Inc.'s Photo

Fill the Pack was created by our volunteer and board member, Martha Crook, who got the idea of providing holiday backpacks for homeless youth during Christmas back in 2010. As a mother, she loved her vivacious and energetic teenager son, David, who unexpectedly passed away and which ultimately led Martha to Volunteers of America, Utah’s Homeless Youth Resource Center. She came to the Center to donate David’s clothes and was touched by a young homeless youth who was ecstatic and grateful for the clothes that Martha had brought in. From there, Martha knew her son was still with her and was giving her strength and the ability to move on.
Fill the Pack is now an annual holiday drive that not only provides much needed items for youth but it also promotes the spirit of giving for many who so willingly give to make Fill the Pack a success each year!
Fill the Pack project provides necessities and a small holiday gift for teens living on the streets. Each backpack is filled with handwarmers, gloves, $5 gift card, hygiene items, UTA bus tokens, a first aid kit, a blanket, water bottle, socks and a hat.
A $100 donation will provide a backpack as well
as valuable services to youth living on the streets. Some of these services include an intake evaluation; assistance with food, clothing and housing; as well as an opportunity to do their laundry or take a shower. Our case managers also work with them to obtain identification, assistance with education and help with employment services.
Each year, hundreds of people help youth find their way to a better life by providing meals, clothing, and job and housing help.
