I Am Woman
Organized by: Pat Russo
In 2011, at the age of 39, I was diagnosed with cancer. Having 3 children under 4 years old was all of a sudden an impossible task instead of being the time of my life. When I went to emergency that hot sunny July day, I knew something was very wrong when I lost a third of my blood. Doctors gave me no hope and a slim hope if I got a multiple blood transfusions. I definitely did not want to have a blood transfusion because my father died because of bad blood through a blood transfusion. My friends and family advised me to take a blood transfusion and reluctantly I did it. All that I could think about that night was to breathe because if I could keep on breathing I was still alive . In my mind I thought that if I could live this night I will definitely change and make a change . I had a great conversation with God that night . That was the night that my life changed. The doctors left me with no hope however inside I knew that this was not my time. I wanted to radically change my life and the life of others, but I knew I had a very long road ahead of me. Fortunately in this day and age we are so lucky to have social media to help us get the word out. I have started a blog, a you tube channel and Facebook pages about beauty and cancer awareness, personal fun family recipies and events. I have also created a song called I Am Woman. I created this upbeat dance song because this was one of my life's dream...yes, to make a song with vocals and everything. I created I Am Woman with the help of a few very special people that actually put my thoughts into reality. I would like to make a video for this song and raise awareness about cancer and ways that people can prevent it in the first place. A portion of the money raised will go to After Breast Cancer fund, an organization dear to my heart. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
