Ali Brennan's Fundraiser:

I Have a Dream

Ali Brennan

My mom told me once that when I was two, I would replay the movie Swan Lake, over and over again, all day long. Watching me imitate the dancers on screen, trying to be as graceful and as poised as they were. When I was four, I came home upset one day, after the kids at school made fun of me because I wanted to be like the White Swan ballerina. My mom said,"Let them say what they want. They will be the ones sitting in your audience". When I was seven I came home crying after my teacher told me that a little mixed girl of colour like me could never be anything white, especially the White Swan. My mom said to me,"Don't worry, she'll be sitting in your audience someday too". when I was eleven my mom told me she was sick with a chronic disease, but it wasn't fatal. There was no cure, but she would push through it to see me dance someday. When I was twelve my mom handed me my first pair of ballet slippers and drove me to my first ballet class. When I was thirteen she drove me to my first lyrical class, and watched me preform at my first six competitions. When I was fourteen she saw me receive an award for 'Most Likely to Aspire in the Preforming Arts 2014'. When I was fifteen she watched me receive an award for 'Most Accomplished In the Contemporary Preforming Arts 2015'. I am sixteen going on seventeen now, and my mom has been by my side since day one, even as her disease continues to get worse. She has hope and faith in me that I will become the dancer that I've been dreaming of becoming since I was little, and hopes that I achieve my goal of teaching others on how to do the same. As a student, I have never wanted anything more than to go to college or university to study business, and the art of dance so I can own and teach at my own dance studio in (hopefully the near) future. Everyone should know that they have the right and the freedom to achieve their hopes, goals, and dreams, regardless of his or her age, size, past, and race. I would love if everyone can achieve, or even try to achieve their goals. I would also really truly love and appreciate it if you could help me acheive mine ❤️ Thank you for any and all love and support!
