I Matter campaign
Organized by: Robert Leonard
March 30, 2016
Why: Since childhood I have struggled with self awareness and self esteem issues. Often feeling different and alone. Today, thanks to better awareness, I realize, sadly, that I am not alone. I also see it in the children, who experience this from an early age, as I did, but lack the awareness to understand, or share. I see it in my own son. I want to help enhance the growing awareness surrounding mental issues in general, but, for now, wish to target more specifically, but not exclusively, self esteem issues, within the youth community. I would like to couple this with an increased awareness of the world around us, and how each of us can have a positive impact. This will have a dual benefit of aiding the cause, be it the environment, or famine relief, AND creating positive moral uplift in the benefactor.
How: The intent is to use the crowd gathering events of Canada 2017 to create awareness within the community on sources for further information and assistance for people dealing with awareness and esteem issues. This will also offer areas where individual youths can get more information on where they can help the world around them, either through volunteer work, waste reduction, voting, etc. In preparation for, and in tandem with this, (and one of the main reason for the funds), we wish to create an awareness within the school age community that EACH child matters and is impactful. Even doing nothing has an impact. To do this we wish to have produce and distribute as many "I Matter" pins as possible (based on funds raised. Pins are about $2 each,), to school age children leading up to, and at Canada 150. (Never done a fundraiser before but if trackable, every donation gets a pin!). The idea came from my son who started a pin collection. People love pins and an event like Canada 150 is the perfect opportunity to get the I Matter campaign in motion. I sincerely thank everybody for taking the time to even read this. Love and respect to all. And please let the ones around you know that they matter. Sometimes that is all it takes to change a life for the better. ( LOL and then YOU made a difference; because we all matter.) Cheers!
