BENEFITING: Tears Foundation Michigan Chapter
2016 was a tragic year for my family and specifically my sister who was pregnant with twin boys. As we anxiously awaited the arrival of my two nephews, we suddenly had to endure the heart break of losing one of the boys (Trevor) as he was delivered stillborn. Sadly, his brother and my godson (Evan) was granted his angel wings a short 9 ½ months later. Death of a loved one is always difficult but infant loss is exceedingly more so.
Families before us have dealt with similar tragedies and thankfully organizations were started to help those affected by infant loss endure the darkest of times. It is their shining light or mission to make our lives just a little bit easier. One such group who I’d like to recognize and support is the The TEARS Foundation. The TEARS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to compassionately assist bereaved parents. Many of the founders and volunteers at The TEARS Foundation have experienced the loss of their own baby, and want to support newly bereaved parents in their time of devastating sorrow.
October 15th is National Pregnancy & Infant Death Awareness Day and also coincides with the Detroit Half Marathon. I have signed up for the half marathon and will be raising funds for The TEARS Foundation. Since I have never run this distance before, I realize that there are painful days ahead of me. But these days will pale in comparison to the pain my sister, her family, and ours has endured. While I am running to raise money for TEARS, my family will join the Foundation at their Detroit Chapter’s monument of a Guardian Angel. Trevor’s name was engraved on this monument last year. This year we will engrave Evan’s name. I hope you can find it in your hearts to support me with a financial donation that will support the MI and IL Chapters of The TEARS Foundation.
