BENEFITING: IAN BECKLES FOUNDATION INC
LET'S SAVE THE POOL AT THE CHILDREN'S HOME!
The Ian Beckles Foundation mission is to provide awareness, mentorship, and financial support to organizations actively improving the future of children’s lives in Tampa Bay. We will foster high achievement in the underprivileged youth and empower them to believe in a brighter future. We have chosen to benefit the Children's Home in Tampa and help them save their pool. Without our help they will not be able to maintain the maintenece of the pool because it is simply not in their budget.
The annual costs for the pool are $11,508.05 and include insurance, permits, maintenance and lifeguard wages. The Children’s Home is one of the few residential group homes in the nation with a pool of this size. The pool is a centerpiece to our 36 year old “Murphey Games”, named for Tampa child advocate and volunteer Ann Murphey. The games are held each summer and feature Olympic style athletic events to help heal the boys and girls through trust, encouragement, teamwork, overcoming fear and developing the courage to try. Individual and relay swimming events are a big part of the games.
In addition the pool is a welcome diversion over the summer and a relief from the Florida heat. There’s nothing better than an afternoon dip in the pool, a game of pool volleyball or “marco polo” followed by a BBq as the sun is setting on a late summer evening. You don’t hear a whole lot of laughter at a home for abused and abandoned kids, but when you do, you can bet it is coming from the pool area. I can’t imagine not having the pool here on campus. Help us save the pool at the Children's Home in Tampa for the children!
