Research has proven that children lose the most knowledge during the summer months. There is little, to no, emphasis in public schools on the importance of summer programs that allow scholars to continue their learning enrichment. One of my large goals this year was to provide each of my scholar’s information about summer programs that aligned with their career aspirations. I succeeded in that endeavor; however, I failed to get over 80% of my students enrolled in summer programs. The major issue was financial restraints on parents. The summer camps were simply too expensive for parents to allocate that amount of money.
This year on my birthday, as oppose to a celebration of my life, I want to set up a scholarship fund that will allow students to afford professional summer camps that provide exposure and experience in the post-college profession of their choice.
I will not make an emotional plea for support; I will simply be honest… We have to invest in the future because they really need our help.
