And so rises The Ice Cube Challenge! The challenge is to try watching an ice cube melt... without moving. Without getting up. Without cheating and breathing all over it. The challenge is passed if you can wait with the ice cube until it is melted. No phone games, no sleeping.
If you can't pass the challenge, consider donating the cost of a bag of ice (about $5) to help kids grow into contributing members of the community. ABA therapy helps them communicate, participate and activate thier minds in achieving amazing goals. Autistic children have many gifts- for some one is an uncanny ability to focus on tasks interesting to them. Can you focus on the ice cube for even 5 minutes? (I lasted about 30 seconds.)
The funds raised will benefit a local organization committed to seeing children receive the ABA therapy that they need. Texas is a state that allows private companies to "opt-out" of providing autism related care via insurance leaving the cost of therapies on the shoulders of individual families. Traditional costs reach upwards of $50-60K per year- the Brent Woodall Foundation makes available excellent ABA therapy at a lower cost and has grants available for struggling families. They are an answered prayer. Events like the 10th Annual Walkabout for Autism help keep the therapy costs low and make sure that families in need can access the care their child requires to thrive.
