At ICF Mission of Hope Liberia, we have a commitment to quality education and spiritual enrichment that will enable more children to grow up with the vision and skill to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy especially among women and children. Our priority is to ensure a safe, healthy and secure environment where the focus on education and learning is enhanced. Our future outlook is to cultivate our students into strong and capable local and international leaders who will be at the helm of rebuilding their country, Liberia, into a strong nation.
The 14 year civil war in Liberia and the EBOLA Crisis of 2015 contributed to the neglect of the agriculture sector in the nation which caused serious economic and food insecurities as well as a lack of empowerment of the rural farming communities.
Prior to the war, Mission of Hope was operating effectively and able to sustain its campus and surrounding, extended communities. We desire to revitalize the agriculture sector in which palm, rice, and cassava are some of the priority crops. These food products represent the main staple crop for a daily Liberian meal. They will not only become an essential food source, but their production at ICF Mission of Hope will contribute significantly to economic empowerment, food security, poverty reduction and training of youth in much needed farming methods.
Like their elders, the majority of Liberia’s youth - classified as 16-35 years old - are subsistence farmers and depend on agriculture. ICF Mission of Hope is committed to make a difference in the future of the youth in the country. The Mission has agricultural programs to assist in sustaining the mission (oil palm, swamp rice, coffee, cassava and others produce). We are in the central part of Liberia where the potential for success is possible. We have 50 plus year legacy to build on and are committed to staying the course that the former missionaries began.
The reality is that nearly 70% of the Liberian population is under the age of 30. Many of these young adults have been forced to drop out of school during the 14-year conflict, cannot pay school fees, or no longer have a school to go to—half of Liberia’s schools were damaged in the conflict. The Mission currently has over 250 children attending the campus in kindergarten to ninth grade. About 20 girls are in our dormitory that is still under construction. 12 boys are living in a temporary building due to the need for a dormitory. We must and we will remain a positive Christian institution in the country. We know that with God’s help all things are possible.
