iCycle is a stationary bike marathon (spin) held outdoors. Since 2007 the iCycle fundraiser has raised well over $150,000 for Homestart, Inc. In order for me to participate in the fundraiser, I have to raise $250 for every hour that I cycle. The Project Organizer is HomeStart, Inc. which ends and prevents homelessness. HomeStart helps find permanent housing by assessing background, financial ability, and a variety of other factors. Also, once HomeStart puts a family or an individual in a home, they make sure they stay there. HomeStart provides stabilization services like money management, life skills training, etc. to make sure that the individual or family are integrated into the community and never become homeless again.
HomeStart is also one of the first and one of the largest agencies in Boston that ends homelessness by preventing it in the first place. Our advocates prevented 568 low-income families and individuals on the verge of eviction from being homeless, by using innovative approaches such as – emergency mini grants, court intervention, and landlord mediation. For HomeStart to prevent an eviction it costs on average $603. It costs taxpayers approximately $30,000 a year to shelter that same family.
Having a home restores a person’s dignity and offers the stability that is necessary for making other life changes, such as securing a job, advancing an education, regaining mental health stability, or maintaining sobriety. That’s why at HomeStart, we believe a home is where the start is
I would greatly appreciate any donations you are willing to give for such a great cause. At the last iCycle fundraiser that I participated in, I raised enough money to cycle for four hours. I would love the opportunity to go the extra hour and cycle for five hours. Please help me to reach that goal and help those less fortunate to help themselves. The minimum to ride a bike for an hour is $250
Thank you very much for your kind and generous donations.
