Our commitment is making a difference in the world by building resilience and promoting disaster risk reduction. Building resilience and promoting disaster risk reduction is a collective responsibility and challenge which calls for worldwide awareness.
FACTS: There is not enough awareness to provide services to be more prepared and well informed in the event of disaster or emergency situation.
Recent record shows that over the 20 years, 90% of major disasters have been caused by recorded floods, storms, heatwaves, droughts, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other weather-related events.
Lives have been lost and billions people have been injured, left homeless or in need of emergency assistance as a result of weather-related disasters. Amongst the top 10 countries in terms of disaster mortality in 2013, 5 countries are classified as low income or lower-middle income economies (Source: World Bank).
