BENEFITING: SKOLL COMMUNITY FUND
"As soon as we need to irrigate our land, we start peddling the pump. We don't have to think twice about using water unlike before. Now I don't stress about the source of water before setting out to sow the seeds", says Parshuram of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh & these are the sentiments of millions of user farmers echoing across India.
With the adoption of IDEI promoted irrigation technologies smallholder farmers shift from rainfed to irrigated agriculture thereby allowing for crop cultivation for two additional seasons. Each user farmer household generates USD 400 as annual net additional income & use this disposable income for agriculture, education for chilldren, accessing health facilities and investing for secured future among others uses.
Thus far, over 1.3 Million households have adopted these technologies thereby benefitting over 7 million people pan India. User farmers have generated over USD 1.3 Billion as net additional income (cumulative figures). IDEI is aspiring to promote these affordable irrigation technologies amongst 4 million households in the next ten years.
**The Skoll Community Fund will serve as an intermediary for IDEI for the duration of the Challenge.
