I Feel Good! Mind, Body and Soul Women's Conference 3rd Annual Photo

The Story

EVENT DATE: Aug 15, 2015

DEADLINE TO GIVE: Aug 13, 2015

The purpose of #IFGMBS Women's Conference is, and always has been, to educate and motivate women of all ages to live healthier, well rounded and empowered lives.

The idea behind I Feel Good! Mind, Body & Soul Women's Conference began in 2011. and is a not for profit event. As a single mother who grew up in Detroit, I know firsthand what young women face. I put my energy, money and love into this event as my way of giving back to the community that I reside in. After two years of careful planning and relationship building, the first #IFGMBS Women's Conference was held in August of 2013 at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

With the assistance of volunteers who facilitate the workshops and my small, but efficient, Super Team, the event has been held for two years and has reached approximately 100 young women in Metro Detroit. I Feel Good! Mind, Body and Soul Women's Conference is a family oriented event that focuses on young women 11 to 18 years old and welcomes adult women 19 years of age and older. Young women ages 11 to 18 attend free of charge.

Topics covered in workshops focus on relevant issues that impact millenials and provide positive reinforcement for their parents. Workshops cover bullying, wellness, goal setting, body image, the use of social media, self esteem building, empowerment and healthy relationships. Workshop facilitators are authorities in the fields of mentorship, business, spirituality, health and wellness, and have many of whom have traveled from across the country to participate in this event each year. Vendors provide products, services, resources and information that each member of the family can benefit from. We also encourage fathers to attend the event with their daughters.

What's Included in the IFGMBS Women's Conference?

All attendees receive four workshops to attend during the day long event. All young women ages 11 to 18 begin their day by attending Chica Chat, which is facilitated by Rasheda Kamaria of Empowered Flower Girl. This is a safe and open environment where young women can ask questions and interact with each other, while mom and dad attend other workshops being offered. After Chica Chat, young women 11 to 18 participate in three more workshops and hear a Featured Guest Speaker presentation, along with any adults that attend. All adults register for four workshops at a cost of $25, which includes parking. For 2015 we're screening the documentary "Imagine A Future". The film is produced by Lisa Cortes, producer for Academy-Award nominated film Precious; directed by Shola Lynch, director of Free Angela and All Political Prisoners; and executive produced by Beverly Bond, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! founder and NAACP Award winner.

Our goal for the 2015 3rd Annual #IFGMBS Women's Conference is to raise enough funds to cover all marketing and promotional expenses that will help to increase attendance to a minimum of 150 participants and 15 vendors; provide much needed prizes and a scholarship opportunity to up to 5 young ladies who submit entries into our annual When I Grow Up Writing Contest

How much of a scholarship will be awared?

How large the scholarship is and the value of prizes awarded will be is determined by how much you donate!

We are also accepting prizes to give away to four essay contest funners up. We're interested in laptops, tablets, smart phones, wearable tech, gift certificates, school supplies, health/wellness/beauty products, along with online and in person STEM classes/workshops.

#IFGMBS has received the support of Better Made Snacks, Justin's Nut Butter, Organic Root Stimulator, Tring Box, Disney Dreamers Academy, American Red Cross of Southeast Michigan, Becky Dewitt, LUSH Handmade Cosmetics, Dr. Nina Fields, Detroit College Promise and D:Hive and we'd like to duplicate these efforts and increase them for 2015.
