BENEFITING: International Funders for Indigenous Peoples
EVENT DATE: Sep 24, 2014
Environmental stewards, climate heroines, keepers of the sacred and traditional knowledge, protectors of their homelands, rights and identity—these are just some of the crucial roles that Indigenous leaders, elders, youth, women and groups are leading in the face of climate change and environmental degradation, land grabs and threats to their very survival and dignity.
But they are gravely UNDER-RESOURCED: Indigenous Peoples receive less than 2/100 of one percent of total giving from US Foundations.
To address this glaring gap, IFIP is organizing its largest event ever, the World Summit on Indigenous Philanthropy, to promote and scale Indigenous giving at an international level, which will take place in NYC in September. But, we need your help.
We want to raise 30% of the remaining funds ($15,000) online to aid in organizing the Summit. Your support will allow us to connect more Indigenous Peoples with donors and deepen meaningful engagements. This is also our first crowdfunding event, so we unquestionably need your support. Every dollar counts!
To show our appreciation for those who step up and stretch themselves, we will recognize our top 15 supporters – those who contribute the most or who create the biggest fundraiser teams – in our Summit materials.
Here are 4 reasons why you should champion this historic summit.

“Indigenous Philanthropy recognizes that Indigenous Peoples are not merely coming with their hands out, but really with their hands full; full of knowledge and wisdom that can be shared with the world.” Amy Fredeen (Inupiaq, President of the IFIP Board of Directors).
