I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of education, so I started volunteering for iMentor in NYC last year in an effort to contribute my own grain of sand to an important mission. The reality is that not all children have access to the same opportunities and guidance to take full advantage of the power of education. iMentor seeks to narrow this achievement gap for students in low-income communities by pairing them with mentors who help guide them throughout high school and prepare them for success in college. One year after applying to the program, I’ve had the amazing experience of mentoring Nicole throughout her Freshmen year in high school. Despite living away from her mother and her home country at such a young age, Nicole knows fully well what she wants to achieve – she is focused on her academics, and determined to make it to college. In only one year, I've seen Nicole progress incredibly towards her goals while teaching me one too many lessons about motivation and perseverance. And this is only one of the many incredible stories we hear about at iMentor.
I’m asking that you support this remarkable organization by either contributing to this campaign which will continue funding mentoring pairs, or by becoming a mentor! If you are unable to donate your time or money, you can also help by spreading the word through your own network. It will actually make a difference.
