If you are born poor, you stay poor.

Hello everyone my name is Jackie. I have lived in the United states since I was 9 I was born in Dominican Republic. I come from a very underprivileged family and it hasn't been easy. We came to this country for he same reason as many people do, for opportunities. What we didnt know is that even though opportunities do exist they are not always easy to achieve for many. In the US, yes we get the chance of having an education. However, not everyone gets to go college and study the career of their choice. Yes maybe I should've been an A student and gotten a full scholarship to a university, but I wasn't . I mean how could I have been a perfect student when I started working since I was 12. I was living on my own at age 14 when I was starting 10th grade, and not to make anyone feel sorry for me but my life has not been easy. I havent had any support from my parents emotionally or financially since I was 14.
My priority wasn't school, my priority was working so that I could be able to pay my rent and eat. I did well in high school but not well enough to earn full scholarships to colleges. I always had a passion and desire to become a nurse. I went to Nassau community college and took the pre-requesites for the nursing program and almost all of the co-requisites. That same year I had a baby. Despite having my baby and working full time I gave nursing a shot and applied for the nursing program. I was accepted. It was one of the most exiting moments of my life. Unfortunately, the first semester I had to withdraw from the program because I needed to get another job to support me and my child. It was a very hard decision that I made but I really had no choice its a big struggle having to live paycheck by paycheck and sometimes not even having enough.
Not long ago I was searching in google and I came upon this quote " If you're born poor, you stay poor." This really bought me down because saddly it is true most of the time. I really dont want that to be my case. I am not looking forward to being rich. I just want to be able to work doing what I love and at the same time making enough money to give my son the opportunities that I never had. I want to be able to go to college and study nursing with out having to be worried that I or my son don't have anything to eat or money for rent. That is why I am asking if you can please help me achieve this goal, I do t ask for much just anything that your heart feels like giving. Thank you for taking your time to read some of my life. God bless you.
