This fundraiser is for a mother that didn't have to be. My brothers and little sister hit pay dirt when my dad found a woman who, despite him having two sets of children by two previous wives, chose to become a part of our family with her son. My older brother and I were preteens (fun times) and the the younger two were small children(even better). We loved her immediately and she took us in like we were her own. My dad was never one to discipline so she was the lucky one that had to keep us in line. She sometimes a better mom than our own mothers and the glue that kept our relationship with our father together. A couple of months ago my son and I were going through a difficult time and she insisted we come stay with her. I had not spent a lot time with my family in recent years so I was unaware of her health problems. She had been diagnosed with COPD and hasn't been able to do much especially housekeeping, that's not to say her house was filthy it wasn't but it needed a deep cleaning. As I cleaned I found water damage which means mold and being out in the country the field mice have decided to become house guest. Before she moved here she was living on the coast and is a Katrina survivor but due to a job layoff was forced to come up here. Now that my dad is gone there's no reason for her to stay in this area. Her mother and sister live close to the coast and as we talked I could see her desire to be back by the ocean. She talks to her mom everyday on the phone but granny has dementia and she's not even been able to visit in a long time. She and my dad eventually had one child together, my baby brother was born when I was 25. He's 21 now and a very devoted son but the opportunities for him are limited here also. I'd like to raise money to move her to her happy place where she can walk the beach for exercise and I can find a healthier environment for her to live. She has a small income and I know once the major expenses of moving are covered we can make it financially. Her car is currently in need of repair although if I'm able to raise enough I'd like to get her something a little more reliable. I also think she would have access to better health care. The money would be used to locate a home to rent, put down deposits, rent a uhaul and cover expenses involved in moving. I know she's always been there to help anyone in need and always will. I plan to finish my degree and advocate for special education and homelessness. So I'll spend my life paying it forward. Any amount is appreciated and adds up and if you aren't able to donate prayers are always welcome.
