THE STORY:

The trip is a ten-day immersion experience (eight days of immersion with a day of travel) over the Christmas/ New Years break, departing Sat, December 27, 2014 and returning Mon, January 5, 2015. The location of the camp will be a Mayan village without electricity and running water, and volunteers will live on mats on the floor of the community center in the village. Each Ignacio Volunteer will have his/her own class to teach in the mornings (English, Math & Arts & Crafts) and will lead the students in sports & games in the afternoons.

The experience seeks students who are able to immersion themselves completely in a new culture. There is little individual privacy and accommodations are simple and very basic. Local Mayan food will be the daily staple and transportation is by van/truck down unpaved roads.
